Program Description

The University
Queensland University of Technology (QUT) has a global outlook and a real-world focus. Located on the eastern coast of Australia, QUT offers a host of opportunities for academic exploration that is fine-tuned to current industry needs. QUT’s internationally award-winning Science and Engineering Centre is home to "The Cube", which is acknowledged as one of the world’s largest digital interactive learning and display spaces. QUT prides itself on innovation and sustainability, both in and out of the classroom.

The Surrounding Area
QUT is located on the eastern coast of Australia in Brisbane, the capital of the Queensland region. Brisbane is Australia’s third largest city and sits along the Brisbane River. Located nearby is the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, where students can cuddle a koala and view other Australian animals like kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, dingoes, snakes, and crocodiles. With over 250 days of sunshine each year, students can explore the City Botanic Gardens, climb up the Story Bridge, overlook the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, or catch the CityCat back along the river!

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of participation

Academic Details

Students accepted into the UNC Wilmington education abroad program with QUT will receive credit toward their degree requirements for most majors. QUT is a world leader in the area of business studies, the sciences and creative industries. Areas of study available include, but are not limited to, accounting, art, biology, business, communication studies, computer science, economics, English, environmental science, film, finance, journalism, marketing, mathematics, psychology, public health, social work, sociology and theater.

Housing

UNCW students may choose from a variety of accommodations ranging from homestays to apartments. The QUT accommodation service will work with you to help you choose the best option for your stay in Australia.

Financial Details

Program Cost
This program is available as an Exchange or as a Study Abroad: 

  • Exchange - This means you pay your regular tuition and fees to UNCW, and your room and board costs abroad.
  • Study Abroad - This means you pay your tuition, fees, room and board abroad. 

With each option, there will be additional costs for international airfare, passport, visa, health insurance, and local transportation. Please meet with an advisor at the Office of International Programs to discuss which option is best for you. 

Financial Aid and Scholarships
Federal and state financial aid may be applied towards this program. Even if you are normally ineligible for financial aid, you should submit a financial aid application (FAFSA). You may find that you are eligible for additional funding. 

UNCW students may also apply for a UNCW Education Abroad Grant and additional study abroad scholarships. Grant applications and additional information are available at www.uncw.edu/ international/abroad/aid.html.
