The University of Wollongong (UOW) is an international university with more than 19,000 undergraduate students comprised from more than 70 countries. Situated between the foothills of Mt. Keira and the Pacific Ocean, UOW has a long reputation as an innovative university with state-of-the-art facilities, including an interactive Science Centre. Wollongong’s location provides access to numerous outdoor activities and proximity to pristine beaches.
The Surrounding Area
The University of Wollongong is conveniently located within minutes of great surfing beaches and is only 1.5 hours south of Sydney. The Blue Mountains and the city of Newcastle are accessible within a few hours’ drive. Longer trips to Melbourne, Brisbane, Tasmania and New Zealand are also possible via train, plane or ferry.

Students at the University of Wollongong are lucky enough to have to balance beach life on the nearby Pacific Ocean with their studies on the spacious and beautiful campus beneath Mt. Keira. UOW promotes student community and offers a variety of clubs and societies to join. The Recreation and Aquatic Center is host to a full range of indoor and outdoor facilities, a first-class gym, and any number of leisure and adventure activities. Students have access to a selection of restaurants and cafes, and just about anything else they need on campus including a bank, bookshop, a retail outlet, post office, medical center, travel agency and hairdresser. They may also take advantage of discounted movies, concerts, plays and art exhibitions on campus.

Students accepted into the UNC Wilmington exchange or study abroad program with University of Wollongong will receive credit toward their degree requirements for most majors. Areas of study available include arts, business and commerce, creative arts, education, engineering, health and behavioral sciences, information technology, law, mathematics, communication studies and science. This program is approved by the Cameron School of Business for business students.
UNCW students may live in a variety of on-campus, university-managed residence halls or apartments, or in off-campus housing, located in close proximity to the university. University of Wollongong staff will assist students with housing arrangements.

This program is available as an Exchange or as a Study Abroad:
- Exchange - This means you pay your regular tuition and fees to UNCW, and your room and board costs abroad.
- Study Abroad - This means you pay your tuition, fees, room and board abroad.
With each option, there will be additional costs for international airfare, passport, visa, health insurance and local transportation. Please meet with an advisor at the Office of International Programs to discuss which option is best for you.
Financial Aid and Scholarships
Federal and state financial aid may be applied towards this program. Even if you are normally ineligible for financial aid, you should submit a financial aid application (FAFSA). You may find that you are eligible for additional funding.
