Program Description

The University
Hochschule Bremen University of Applied Sciences (HBUAS) is a key strategic partner of UNCW’s Cameron School of Business with whom they are members of the Transatlantic Business School Alliance (TABSA).

The Surrounding Area
Bremen is a cosmopolitan city rich in tradition and the second largest development center in Germany behind Hamburg . A center for business and commerce, Bremen’s future-oriented flair is reflected in the city’s recreational and cultural activities, vibrant nightlife, theatre, cinemas, museums, and flea markets. Every year since 1036, Bremen has hosted Freimarkt (“Free market”), one of the world’s oldest and, in Germany, one of today’s biggest continuously celebrated fairground festivals.

Student Life
Academics at HBUAS are complemented by the broad spectrum of programs and activities available to international students. Students who wish to practice conversational German skills can join university sports, the Theatre Group or the Brahms Choir; attend the annual international Literature Festival; or participate in HBUAS’s Adopt-a-Student Program. In addition, the International Office offers a wide variety of events and excursions for international students.

  • At least sophomore standing at time of participation
  • Good judicial standing
  • 3.0+ GPA at time of application
  • Completion of 6 successful semesters of German language

Academic Details

This program is designed specifically for Business students. TABSA two-year program students may earn two degrees, including a business degree from UNCW, and a degree from HBUAS.  All coursework in the TABSA Dual Degree program is taught in German. Students must have completed at least 6 semesters of German to participate in this program. 

Housing

Students live off-campus, enjoying city life and commuting to campus as many local students do. With guidance from the Bremen International Office, students are personally responsible for reserving a room in student housing or finding an apartment in Bremen. This should be done as soon as possible prior to the start of the semester. On and off-campus housing rent ranges from 150 to 300 Euros per month.

Program Cost
This program is available as Exchange. This means you pay your regular tuition and fees to UNCW, and your room and board costs abroad. There will be additional costs for international airfare, passport, visa, health insurance, and local transportation.

Financial Aid and Scholarships
Federal and state financial aid may be applied towards this program. Even if you are normally ineligible for financial aid, you should submit a financial aid application (FAFSA). You may find that you are eligible for additional funding. 

UNCW students may also apply for a UNCW Education Abroad Grant and additional study abroad scholarships. Grant applications and additional information are available at www.uncw.edu/international/abroad/aid.html.
