Program Description

 

The University
Recognized as one of the largest academic institutes in Japan, Kindai University is a leader in research, economics, business, aquaculture and cultural studies. The program is offered on the main campus in Higashiosaka City. Kindai University is devoted to a constant expansion of academic programs and facilities to parallel our flourishing society.

The Surrounding Area
Higashiosaka City is located just east of Osaka City in the center of Osaka Prefecture. A variety of attractions are nearby including the Himeji Castle, Horyu-ji Temple, and Umeda Sky Building—not to mention the prospering gardens on campus and a breathtaking view of the Japan’s mountainous landscape.

Student Life
Kindai offers a large number of club activities, sports, volunteer work and events. The Village E Cube offers English speakers the opportunity to meet and interact with fellow students who wish to practice speaking English. Friendship societies for international students offer peer counseling and advice, which is particularly helpful upon arrival.


Eligibility 

  • Degree-seeking student
  • At least sophomore standing at time of participation
  • Good judicial standing
  • 2.75+ GPA at time of application
  • 1 year of college level Japanese required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of participation

Academic Details

Students have the opportunity to study Japanese language ranging from intermediate to advanced levels. A small number of courses are taught in English each semester, mainly international studies and literature, arts and cultural studies.

Housing

Kindai University provides off campus housing for all international students. The University’s Center for International affairs assists students in finding reasonable housing within a close vicinity to campus. Accessible train stations to and from campus are surrounded by local cafes, shops, drug stores, super markets and more.

This program is available as an Exchange: 

  • Exchange - This means you pay your regular tuition and fees to UNCW, and your room and board costs abroad.

There will be additional costs for international airfare, passport, visa, health insurance, and local transportation. Please meet with an advisor at the Office of International Programs to discuss which option is best for you. 

Financial Aid and Scholarships
Federal and state financial aid may be applied towards this program. Even if you are normally ineligible for financial aid, you should submit a financial aid application (FAFSA). You may find that you are eligible for additional funding. 

UNCW students may also apply for a UNCW Education Abroad Grant and additional study abroad scholarships. Grant applications and additional information are available at www.uncw.edu/international/abroad/aid.html.
