The UNCW in Iceland program is located in the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik. Courses will take place at Reykjavik University (RU), Iceland’s largest private university. RU is a modern, dynamic university situated in the heart of Iceland’s capital, and offers undergraduate and graduate programs in a wide variety of subjects, including business, computer science, engineering, and sustainability studies. The University has an interdisciplinary approach that fits well with today’s society and offers programs that, for example, cross business with computer science and computer science with engineering. Indeed – RU is at the forefront of research in Iceland in its focus areas.
The Surrounding Area
Reykjavik (population 125,000) is the largest city in Iceland and home to the majority of the country’s population (approximately 330,000). It has the distinction of being the world’s northernmost capital, and is fast becoming an important tourist destination as well as a center for environmental innovation. The city and country are seen to be very technologically advanced and socially progressive, and its people are considered some of the most welcoming and friendly in the world. The UNCW in Iceland program includes cultural activites and excursions to places like Reykjanes Peninsula, Snæfellsnes Peninsula and the Sout Coast. This program will also provide students opportunities like seeing the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights), visiting Lake Myvatn Geothermal Area, the Blue Lagoon, glacier hiking and much more!

Students participating in UNCW in Iceland will be able to directly enroll with Icelandic and other international students and be among a small, fortunate group of Americans studying abroad in Iceland! Students will take courses in a variety of subject areas, including international business, computer science (including game design), and engineering. Courses are geared toward upperclassmen, so students are recommended to have a background in the subjects they plan on studying.
Students in Reykjavik will live in local apartments and guest houses. Rooms will generally be double-occupancy with shared bathrooms, living areas, kitchen and laundry facilities.

Financial Aid and Scholarships
Federal and state financial aid may be applied towards this program. Even if you are normally ineligible for financial aid, you should submit a financial aid application (FAFSA). You may find that you are eligible for additional funding.
