Krakow: Writing for Multi-National Corporations


Program Description

Program Overview
 For this class, we are throwing out the textbook ... literally. During Spring, you will learn online how people collaborate and solve problems with writing from business people in multi-national companies like Motorola Solutions, Fortum Power, and Electrolux ... all of which have important hubs in Poland. We will finish the course by visiting several companies in Poland from May 26 - June 9. These visits will end with a cutting-edge multi-national conference on writing and business called Soap!. You will also visit famous sites like Auschwitz and Wawel Castle.

Location & Program Features 
Poland is one of the most affordable ways to experience Europe. Krakow has strong business ties with US and is a growing hub for technological innovation in Europe. Krakow also has one of the largest town squares in Europe with all its Medieval architecture intact. There are castles, dragons, famous art, lots of parks, and fascinating history. Easily walkable, you’ll have lots of time to explore all these things on your own. The highlight of the trip will be a cutting-edge conference held across the river from Wawel castle. You’ll meet professionals from all over the world and learn about business and writing in the 21st century.


Eligibility 

  • Degree-seeking student
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of participation
  • Good judicial standing
  • 2.50+ GPA at time of application

Academic Details

ENG 312: Writing for Business (3 credits)
Advanced exploration of research and writing skills needed to plan and design texts for diverse audiences within organizational contexts. Projects include business plans, proposals, reports, and other genres developed using a variety of media. Includes instruction in graphically representing data and using social media for research and/or outreach.
