Program Description

The University
Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) is one of Asia’s superior institution of higher learning. Located in the Kowloon District, HKBU lets students experience Hong Kong’s indelible culture first hand. The university’s inspiring mission is dedicated to academic excellence and the development of the whole person.

The Surrounding Area
Immerse yourself in the thriving metropolitan area of Hong Kong: Take a stroll down the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade or witness the breathtaking view of The Peak. The night life is additionally electric; the Sleepless City offers trendy bars, live entertainment, and even a midnight trek through the Bowen Road Fitness Trail. Though known for its bustling cityscapes, Hong Kong isn’t far from tranquility, mountainous paths, remote islands, and villages are accessible to students as well.

Student Life
Hong Kong Baptist University brings a dual approach to their education, focusing on teaching and research. With state-of-the art facilities, halls, and living quarters, students can find a multitude of ways to enjoy themselves. With Hong Kong nearby, there are more than enough resources, shops, and cafes available.

  • Degree-seeking student
  • At least sophomore standing at time of participa tion
  • Good judicial standing
  • 2.50+ GPA at time of application
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of participation

Academic Details

Students accepted into the UNC Wilmington study abroad program with Hong Kong Baptist University will receive credit toward their degree requirements for most majors. Areas of study include business administration, communication and media studies, journalism, social sciences, recreation, and writing studies.

Housing

Students attending HKBU will stay in the 21 store Undergraduate Halls on campus in shared rooms. Exchange students will be updated with application announcements. Students also have an option to live off campus.

This program is available as an Exchange: 

  • Exchange - This means you pay your regular tuition and fees to UNCW, and your room and board costs abroad.

There will be additional costs for international airfare, passport, visa, health insurance, and local transportation. Please meet with an advisor at the Office of International Programs to discuss which option is best for you. 

Financial Aid and Scholarships
Federal and state financial aid may be applied towards this program. Even if you are normally ineligible for financial aid, you should submit a financial aid application (FAFSA). You may find that you are eligible for additional funding. 

UNCW students may also apply for a UNCW Education Abroad Grant and additional study abroad scholarships. Grant applications and additional information are available at www.uncw.edu/international/abroad/aid.html.
