Pre-Clinical Health Internship

This Internship and study program at Swansea University is designed to support UNCW Pre-Clinical Health Studies students to prepare for the continuation of their education in a clinical specialty of their choosing having observed and participated in practical experiences that will help them bridge public health concepts with clinical practice in the United Kingdom.The internship students will observe clinicians at work and learn about the organisation, administration, functioning and funding of the practice in which the clinician is employed.
The Surrounding Area
The surrounding countryside is some of the most beautiful in Britain. Swansea is only 35 miles from Cardiff, the capital of Wales, and has direct road and rail links to London and all the major cities in the U.K. The wonderful and varied landscape of the Gower Peninsula is close by and was the first place in Britain to be designated as an “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.” Spectacular cliffs, lovely beaches and walks are only a few of the peninsula’s many features. There are opportunities for surfing, swimming, walking, boating, fishing, and other maritime pursuits.

Swansea University has been awarded the Best Student Experience in Britain by the Times Higher Education Supplement. Swansea has an excellent range of international activities, including International Friendship House - a charitable organization run by British locals to show hospitality to international students. The university’s sports centre boasts indoor courts, tennis, and racquetball courts, a modern uni-gym with fitness machines and free weights, along with direct access to an Olympic-sized pool. Swansea nightlife is excellent with a huge choice of clubs, bars, restaurants and cafes to choose from, as well as a major cinema complex and bowling centre.

- Students must have completed all Public Health Core courses and be approved for the internship by their PBH faculty
- Must be at least 18 years of age at time of participation
Students will be taking courses while completing their internship (4 days of classes, 1 of internship). Some courses may include:
- Equality, Discrimination and Oppression in Society
- Social Inquiry in Practice
- Introduction to Psychology and Sociology in Health Care
- Foundations in Human Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology
- Introduction to Research in Health and Social Care
- Safeguarding in Health and Social Care
- Sociology of Health and Illness
- Human Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology II
- and many more!
Swansea Residential Services will assist all visiting and exchange students in finding university accommodation. Accommodation is available through university residences as well as university managed flats and houses in town. Accommodation will be on a 22-week term for students choosing to utilize on-campus housing.

This program is available as a Study Abroad:
- Study Abroad - This means you pay Swansea University tuition, fees, and Swansea acommodation costs.*
There will be additional costs for international airfare, passport, Tier IV visa (400-500 USD), GeoBlue health insurance, and local transportation.
Financial Aid and Scholarships
Federal and state financial aid may be applied towards this program. Even if you are normally ineligible for financial aid, you should submit a financial aid application (FAFSA). You may find that you are eligible for additional funding.
