The University

Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences is situated in Osnabrück, Germany which is in close proximity to Munster and Bremen, Germany. Osnabrück University is a public research university located in the city of Osnabrück in Lower Saxony, Germany with a student population of 14,000. This university is equipped with modern facilities and offers a friendly and family-like atmosphere to its students. Osnabrück University is very close to the center of the city with modern shops and restaurants, as well as the old town with its beautiful historic buildings.

One part of the university is situated in the city center, and the other part is situated in the district of Westerberg, close to the city centre. Students can reach both locations easily by bus. 

The Surrounding Area
Osnabrück is a city in northwest Germany. The Town Hall is where the 1648 Peace of Westphalia was negotiated, bringing the 30 Years’ War to an end. It sits on the market square, along with gabled houses and St. Marien, a 13th-century Gothic church. The Felix Nussbaum House shows a large collection of works by the local surrealist painter. To the south, the grounds of Osnabrück Castle are a venue for summer concerts.
 

Program Description

Academics at Osnabrück are complemented by the broad spectrum of programs and activities available to international students. The International Office is available for support and provides excursions and international events for students to enjoy and meet other students. UNCW students will feel right at home on the welcoming  campus. In contrast to other nearby universities (including applied science universities), the ratio of lecturers to students is very good at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences. Its campus has many green areas and historic architecture.

  • Degree-seeking student
  • At least sophomore standing at time of participation
  • Good judicial standing
  • 3.0+ GPA at time of application
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of participation

Academic Details
Courses in English offered by Osnabrück University can be found in: the School of Human Sciences (Cognitive Sciences and Philosophy), School of Languages and Literary Studies, School of Biology/Chemistry, and School of Physics. The Language Center offers German courses for international students which are free of charge (but that do not earn academic credit).
 

Housing

Students have the option of living in a student dormitory near campus or in private (shared) apartments.

Program Cost
This program is available as Exchange. This means you pay your regular tuition and fees to UNCW, and your room and board costs abroad. There will be additional costs for international airfare, passport, visa, health insurance, and local transportation.

Financial Aid and Scholarships
Federal and state financial aid may be applied towards this program. Even if you are normally ineligible for financial aid, you should submit a financial aid application (FAFSA). You may find that you are eligible for additional funding. 

UNCW students may also apply for a UNCW Education Abroad Grant and additional study abroad scholarships. Grant applications and additional information are available at www.uncw.edu/international/abroad/aid.html.
